Dogapalooza - Melbourne's New Dog Friendly Music Festival


Dogs are our best friends. And friends go to festivals together. So it’s only logical to take your pooches to a music festival designed especially for them.

Dogapalooza is coming to Melbourne for the first time this year. It’s a charity concert event against animal cruelty and which raises money for Melbourne-based animal advocacy organisations including Stafford Rescue Victoria, Paws of Love Animal Rescue and Melbourne Animal Rescue. “The inspiration is simple,” says festival director, Abby Gee. “We’re trying to save the lives of ex-puppy farm and abandoned pound dogs.”

The festival ran earlier this year at the Adelaide Fringe Festival and raised over $13,000 for animal-rescue organisations.

Artists performing this year include Melbourne DJ duo Cocoa Noire, folk-pop twins Amistat, Melbourne-based reggae-folk singer Tash Sultana and indie-folk singer-songwriter Harrison Storm.

There will be stalls to buy things for your dog, a vegetarian and vegan barbeque, and best of all (or at least, the best bit after being able to bring your dog), the festival is BYO beer, wine and pre-mixed spirits. You don’t even need to bring a dog: dog-less dog lovers are also welcome.

Dogapalooza is on Sunday September 27 at Burnley Park, Richmond, from 11.30am–5pm.

Tickets are $31.65 for adults, $18.40 for students and concession cardholders, $13.30 for children over 12. For dogs and children under 12, entry is via donation.
