It's a Dog's Life photographic exhibition by acclaimed pet photographer, Serena Hodson, will be held in Brisbane from June 5 until June 16, 2017 . The stars of this exhibition are her three dogs: Simon (a British Bulldog), Garfunkel (a French Bulldog ) and Henri (a Wired Dachshund ) who have already amassed a 100,000-strong social media fan base after their owner began posting quirky pics of her pups on Facebook. Riverwood Downs Trail Run is Australia’s newest and most unique timed trail running event where the whole family can enter, including the family dog!  Presented by Tail Runner Events the Trail Run event will be held on Saturday 22nd July - Sunday 23rd July 2017 . Brisbane based artist, Stephen Gallagher, usually spends his days painting people's pooches from his studio in Salisbury.  However after a trip to a local shelter last year, Stephen decided to use his paintbrush to represent the many dogs without a home in Brisbane and also inspire Australians to adopt.  The result is 100 oil portraits of 100 dogs that have come through Brisbane shelters in 2016 and 2017. "Having been a dog owner most of my life, I understand the unique bond that humans and dogs share. There is no doubt that humans benefit from the company of dogs and they, in turn, thrive on human contact and friendship.   A dog without a home is a tragic creature." Paws Explores returns with a new Hike and Seek Adventure for Melbourne dog lovers.  This one is a "trails for treats" adventure with your dogs, which will be held on Sunday 28th May in  the stunning You Yangs Regional Park near Little River (VIC). International Guide Dog Day on Wednesday 26th April , celebrates the incredibly important role Guide Dogs play in the community and acknowledges the amazing difference they make to the lives of people who are blind or vision impaired. HISTORY References to service animals in literature date at least as far back as the mid-16th century. In a 19th-century novel by Elizabeth Barrett Browning, the title character remarks, "The blind man walks wherever the dog pulls ... And so I answered." Dogs were first used to guide people who were blind in 1819 when Johann Whilhelm Klein founded an institute for the blind in Vienna, Austria.
